Slovenia is a small, lovely and very diverse country. It’s geographical position is unique as four major European geographic regions are met in a small place: the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian Plain, and the Mediterranean with 43 km of coast. That means the environment changes completely even if you travel only short distances. Most of the country is covered in hills and forest (58% of the area). The climate is moderate with summer temperatures up to 35°C. Its position in the centre of Europe will give you a perfect starting point for further travelling other European countries.

Ljubljana Top

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and most of IAESTE trainees will be placed here. It has a unique position in the centre of Slovenia, so interesting places all across the country are within easy reach from there. For example, it takes you only one hour to be either climbing in the Alps or sunbathing on the coast, if you are heading the other direction. In Ljubljana you can visit castle, several interesting museums, or hike to locals’ favourite Šmarna gora. Another thing that makes Ljubljana such an attractive city is its numerous student population. Maribor Top

Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia with 120.000 people. It is placed in the well-known wine-growing area besides river Drava. One of the main tourist attractions is the oldest living example of a noble grape vine on our planet. Pohorje is a popular ski resort near Maribor, which turns into a place for hiking and cycling for the summer. If you are looking for nightlife you should visit Ribičija, Štuk, Tacos, KMŠ.

Bled Top

With immense natural beauty, Bled, together with its surroundings, ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts, renowned for its mild, healing climate and thermal lake water. The beauty of the mountains reflected on the lake, the sun, the serenity and the fresh air arouse pleasant feelings in visitors throughout the year, guaranteeing an ideal base or a relaxing break or an active holiday. Bled attracts businessmen, artists, athletes, explorers, sport enthusiasts, the old and the young, from all over the world, enchanting them to return again and again.

Bohinj Top

Another lake, surrounded by the Alps, but bigger and with fewer tourists than Bled. In summer it warms up to 22°C, just the right temperature for a refreshing swim! Area around Bohinj is perfect for hiking trips into the Alpes. You can also visit the 78m high waterfall Savica.

Triglav Top


Triglav is the highest Slovenian mountain peak, reaching the height of 2864m. It is the symbol of Slovenian nation and you’re not considered a true Slovenian unless you climbed it at least once. It is located in the middle of Triglav national park.
If you decide to conquer the highest Slovenian mountain, you need to be physically prepared, have experience in hiking  and must not forget  about appropriate equipment, hiking shoes are necessary.


Soča river Top

Without doubt, the most beautiful river in Slovenia. It has unique green colour and it flows in untouched valley surrounded by mountains. During the summer is a good place for water sports like rafting or canyoning.

Piran Top

It is the second oldest city in Slovenia and placed next to the sea. Famous for its Venetian architecture  and romantic narrow streets. It also has a beautiful church placed on a hill with a view on Slovenian coast.

Slovenian caves Top

Many tourists are amazed by Slovenian caves, hidden under the surface of the most unique region in Slovenia, Kras. In millions of years water corrosion caused the limestone to form beautiful shapes and halls up to 20 km in length. In some caves there are even underground rivers. The most popular among tourists are Postojnska jama and Škocjanske jame.

Ptuj Top

The oldest city located in east of Slovenia by the river Drava, famous for its castle hill. In Ptuj there is the oldest wine cellar in Slovenia. During the summer you can chill out in thermal spa Terme Ptuj.
